Over this term and into the next the Bethlehem Sunday school is looking at the heroes of the faith. There are plenty of the usual suspects! So far they have focussed on Noah and Joseph. Next week is David. The children have especially been looking at which fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) are evident in these heroes’lives. Hebrews 11, part of which is the assigned Epistle for this Sunday, which our message is based on today, is like a grand parade of all the heroes of the faith. Hence, this gives us a good chance today to connect the generations of our congregation by focussing on what a chapter like this tells all of us for our everyday faith. Have a read through. It is interesting that the ones of whom we get a longer description in the OT have some pretty deep flaws (as well as evident fruits of the spirit!). So it’s not the ‘heroes’ themselves that matter the most. It’s not even faith itself, as important as that is. But the one they have faith in (Heb 11:3). Worth thinking about therefore where our focus is to be when there are so many distractions in this world!
