Last week we looked at the conversion of Lydia in Philippi. We stay in Philippi this week and look at the account of Paul and Silas in jail. They were there, bloody and bruised from a severe beating, as a result of Paul, in Jesus’ name, exorcising an evil spirit from a slave girl. It’s interesting that in their suffering it was their jailer and his whole household that ended up being saved. It’s important to see that God’s word broke through again despite sorcery, suffering and despair. Indeed, we can trust it to overcome all obstacles – it is after all, the very power of the ascended Christ at work.
