The readings today are an interesting mix. There is almost no gospel in the two New Testament lessons in comparison to the Old Testament lesson and Psalm which both drip Gospel comfort.(Clearly the OT is not all law!!!) So being Lent we’ll take the opportunity to think through how we are going in our Christian walk by embracing the teaching of the epistle lesson on 1 Corinthians 10:1-13. We need to do this because it makes the point that God has given us ‘… examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things’ (1 Cor 10:6) and ‘… as warnings for us’ (1 Cor 10:11). So today we’ll use this part of God’s Word as God intended it for. We’ll look at these examples… and in particular, how they might help us in times of temptation, which God promises he will do (see 1 Cor 10:13). The aim is little bit of practical input to our lives of faith and bearing its fruit as we fight temptation. But as ever, we rejoice that Christ is our spiritual rock from which all nurture, grace and forgiveness stems. (1 Cor 10:4)
