In today’s Gospel – Luke 13:31-35, and the sermon text today – we overhear a conversation between Jesus and one of the religious groups of the day. At essence is the question of who opposes Jesus. Jesus faced much opposition in his day… even to death (Luke 13:34). He still continues to today (Phil 3:18). Surprisingly for us, the source of that opposition is closer to our hearts and minds than we might be comfortable admitting. Thank God the Holy Spirit leads us in repentance and that in repenting we are led to declare ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord’ (Luke 13:35; Luke 19:38; Psalm 118:26)… for we are indeed blessed by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
