What makes you worthy? The world has lot’s of answers. You know what they are and chances are you believe in them more than what you think you might. One of these categories is how much you meet the standard. Do you do what you need to in order to fit in to what’s required? Do you perform your job well? Are you providing for your kids adequately? Are you on enough rosters at church? Our text today – Ephesians 4:25-5:2 has 11 instructions/commands (‘imperatives’ in tech speak). Some of them are negatives we should no longer do (eg. put off falsehood), others are positives we should do more of (speak truthfully to our neighbour). Are these just about meeting a standard before God? Does meeting them make you worthy before God? No and no. Ephesians 4:1 tells us we are already worthy because of the calling we have received. Eph 5:2 tells us it was Jesus who met the standard: for he gave himself up for us as fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Today we’ll explore the aroma of Christ and what it is to walk in that loved shaped aroma.
