These are the words of Jesus in today’s Gospel to Jairus’ who has just learnt of his 12 year old daughter’s death. They are words we still need to hear and focus on whenever loss threatens us to lose our confidence in God. It’s not insignificant they are spoken by Jesus the Son… for where else will we find God in all his love and compassion? So in both of the miracles in today’s Gospel – the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years and the raising to life of the 12 year old girl – faith and belief allow Christ’s healing to be received. It is no different today. “Don’t be afraid, just believe!” (Mark 5:36; from the sermon text on this week’s Gospel: Mark 5:21-43).
