25th February 2018 – Who’s out the front?

February 22, 2018 Pastor Matt Bishop

Jesus!  Psalm 22: 19-31, the Psalm of the day, is concerned chiefly with worship. It tells us, confirmed by Hebrews 2:12, something quite startling:  Jesus is leading our worship.  This is seen in verse 22 which reads:  ‘I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you’.  Today on this second Sunday of Lent we will hear why this matters for our life with God, and how God serves us with his comfort and grace in this very act of Jesus leading us in our praise.  Our other readings on promise (OT), faith (epistle) and picking up our cross as disciples of Christ (Gospel) are all closely connected.  They speak of God’s redemptive plan which is remembered, received and enacted because Jesus ‘suffered’ (Mark 8:31) so that we can be drawn eternally into God’s holy worship.
