Romans 12:9-21 has in view a busy, active love. Generated out of the enabling compassion of God (Rms 12:1 – see last week’s sermon), it shows us the extremes and creative possibilities that accompany the love God both envisages and generates in us. It’s a comprehensive list for life together and for service to the world – tough and stretching, focussed on all people including those who do us wrong and leaving room for God to address. Sometimes we lose hope, become impatient and forget about prayer (Rms 12:12). God gives us this list to encourage us back to him through faith active in love. What generosity! Therefore, out of his enabling compassion, pray that you too can be generous in this busy, active love (Rms 12:13)!
